The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has urged financial institutions to place consumers at the center of their service delivery by developing customer-centric financial products and ensuring full disclosure of all relevant information to consumers.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by FNB Zambia to the Commission recently, CCPC Executive Director Mrs. Eunice Phiri Hamavhwa emphasized the need for financial institutions to prioritize transparency and responsiveness.
She noted that the Commission aimed to reduce the number of complaints in the financial sector. Additionally, she encouraged institutions to expedite reversal processes to build consumer confidence and trust in the digital era.
CCPC also cautioned against anti-competitive practices such as cartels and stressed that all mergers must be notified to the Commission as per requirement under the Competition and Consumer Protection Act. No. 24 of 2010 as amended by Act No. 21 of 2023.
Meanwhile, FNB Zambia Chief Executive Officer Ms. Kapumpa Chola highlighted the bank’s internal efforts to uphold good conduct and ensure consumer welfare.
She explained that FNB regularly conducts staff trainings to ensure high standards of service and ethical engagement with customers.
Ms. Chola further shared that FNB Zambia actively engages communities through financial literacy programs and awareness campaigns using various platforms. She said the bank aligns its operations with the provisions of the Act as it also takes consumer complaints seriously.
She expressed gratitude at the Commission's willingness to engage with stakeholders in a friendly environment and commended the Commission's open-door policy.
CCPC commended FNB Zambia for maintaining a strong track record of resolving consumer complaints in a timely manner.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is participating in the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) 2025 through exhibitions that are taking place at Eastpark Park Mall from 26th to 29th June 2025.
The 2025 APSD is being held under the theme “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps.”
CCPC is exhibiting under the one-stop shop initiative of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry- and through this, it is engaging the public on its mandate of promoting fair competition and protecting consumers in the economy.

This recognition underscores the Commission’s commitment to protecting consumer welfare and ensuring fair competition in Zambia’s economy.
Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry under which CCPC was exhibiting was honored with two prestigious awards:

CCPC signs MOU with NaCC
On 7th September 2023, The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Namibian Competiton Commission (NaCC) signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening cooperation in competition law enforcement between the two countries at Kenneth Kaunda Conference Centre in Lusaka on . The MOU was signed at the Joint Zambia Namibia Trade Commission meeting and was witnessed by Zambia's Acting Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon. Rodney Sikumba, MP and The Minister of Trade and Industralisation for the Republic of Namibia Hon. Lucia Lipumbu and the respective High Commissioners accredited to both Zambia and Namibia. When Namibia was establishing their Commission in 2009, they came to Zambia to learn.

CCPC COMESA MoU Signing Ceremony
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the COMESA Competition Commission (CCC) on 4th November, 2022 at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Center. The MoU has areas of cooperation which include; regional e-commerce consumer protection, preparation of the Zambian business community through acquiring information on how to competitively position themselves under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement and joint investigations on consumer and anti-competitive business practice cases among others.
