The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) National Organising Committee (NOC), together with a team from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), paid courtesy calls on the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Central Province and the District Commissioner for Kabwe District ahead of the World Consumer Rights Day commemorations scheduled for 14th March 2026 in Kabwe.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Godfrey Chitambala emphasised the importance of the various establishments that provide consumers with products and services, noting that these institutions play a critical role in driving the economy.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner Mr. Lennox Shimwambwa expressed delight that the National Organising Committee would be represented at the event and highlighted the important role that institutions that work to safeguard consumer rights play.
Speaking during the engagements, NOC Chairperson Mr. Kings Syachika explained that the decision to hold this year’s commemorations in Kabwe, as opposed to the usual venue in Lusaka, was intended to ensure that consumers beyond Lusaka Province feel included as the country spreads awareness of this year’s theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”
The Deputy Permanent Secretary welcomed the decision, noting that hosting the event at Mukuyu Tree provides a central and accessible venue for the public. He also encouraged the organising team to consider using more local languages when engaging with members of the community to ensure the message reaches a wider audience.
Ahead of the commemorations, the Commission and the NOC also conducted several awareness activities, including a live radio programme on Spice Radio and outreach visits to school clubs at Chindwin A Secondary School and Stephen Luwisha Girls Secondary School. These engagements were aimed at sensitising the community on the WCRD theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” and highlighting how different institutions contribute to protecting consumer rights.
